JANE SHEWMAKER HALE
"WHY BE LESS WHEN YOU CAN BE MORE"
Author-Publisher Jane Hale says, "One of the most important things a writer can do is attend conferences and get to know others connected with the field of writing. Links to the world of publication are invaluable whether you are seeking a publisher or become an independent publisher. The final goal of a writer is to get their work to the reader."
Rainbow Publications promotes the "Land" mysteries series to elementary and junior high children through a program they originated called "Recycling Reading." The program gives area schools the opportunity to book author, Jane Hale, to speak to students about writing and publishing. She knows that kids like to interact. When introduced, Jane quietly asks, "What did they say my name was?" The children reply. She asks again a little louder. They answer a little louder. A few more times of "I can't hear you!" has the classroom in command of the author's name. Then, she replies, "Thank you, Jane Hale is my name and that's the name you want to look for on a book when you visit your library or a book store."
Jane was the featured speaker at Tri-Lakes Young Authors Conference held at Highlandville Elementary south of Springfield Missouri on Hwy 160, between Nixa and Reeds Spring Missouri, on Saturday, May 3, 2003. The 2003 theme was "Flying High With Writing". Two hundred and eight young authors from 10 different schools including: Blue Eye, Clever, Crane, Forsyth, Galena, Highlandville Elem/Spokane MS, Hollister, Ozark, Reeds Spring and Taneyville, participated in mini workshops, viewed other student-published books, enjoyed snack time , and got to hear a "REAL LIVE AUTHOR", Jane. Each young author was recognized with a certificate of participation at the end of the morning. The group was entertained by the Highlandville elementary choir and introduced to this year's recipient of the $500 TLYAC Scholarship (as a past participant, seniors are invited to write a book and win the monetary award). Jane's books were available for sale and autographing. It was a great experience and the book sales were outstanding.
Hale has worked with the Warrensburg Young Authors Conference. She is available for speaking engagements. Please e-mail her more information to firstname.lastname@example.org
The "Land" series of holiday mysteries is offered at a discount to students while the author is visiting the school. A percentage of the book sales are donated to the school library to buy books and AR (Accelerated Reading) test disks. (NOTE: AR has revised their name to 2001 Renaissance Learning, Inc.)
Information is available to be sent home with students for ordering books before the author arrives. Jane will bring books to the school and donate funds to the school library the same day books are sold and autographed.

In conjunction with the "Land" holiday mystery series, Rainbow Publications and Toys produces plush companion animals. Each of these plush toys are companion pieces to the mystery books and are good tools to help the children get involved in reading and enjoying the books.
